Ever since Voices launched in November of 2009, we’ve hit some awesome download milestones. First there was 100,000, soon after followed 200,00, 300,000 and 400,000. However, the milestone we have all been waiting for was upon us last week. I am pleased to announce that Voices has had it’s 500,000th download.

This is huge for us and has proved to be a complete game-changer. We are not resting on our laurels however, Voices 2 is in development and it’s shaping up to be an amazing release. Not to mention the other awesome apps we have in the pipeline (be sure to sign up to our mailing list to be the first to know about them). If you’re intrigued in Voices week-by-week sales, our friends at tap tap tap have posted broken down sales figures.

To top off this Oscar style acceptance speech, I’d like to say thanks to the guys at tap tap tap, Marcelo Marfil, David Lanham, Art Gillespie, Josh Mobley and anyone else who contributed to Voices. Most importantly, thanks to everyone of the 500,000 users we have! Next up, one million.

Attic is a slick music controller for all those unplayed albums that are collecting dust sitting in your iTunes library. Listen to, create playlists of, and shuffle through your forgotten albums.

Drag-n-drop albums selected from your iTunes library. In a hurry? Let Attic automatically decide which albums to play using the magic wand.

Add multiple albums to the rotation to create on-the-fly playlists. Play albums in sequential order, or shuffle album songs.

Kick back. Attic figures out which albums in your library haven’t been played lately and updates which albums appear on the shelves.

We have worked on Attic with Tapku for the last few months and couldn’t be happier with how it’s turned out. Simply put, it’s awesome. Grab your copy of Attic at the App Store now!

2009 was a great year for us at Taptivate...

2009 was a great year for us at Taptivate. Not only did we announce ourselves to the world, but it seems people loved the apps we produced!

Postman (in conjunction with Freeverse and Phill Ryu) was our first release in the middle of the year. Our frankly awesome Postcard app has gone from strength to strength this year, far exceeding our expectations. You might have even seen it on television. Later in the year saw the release of Voices (in conjunction with tap tap tap and MacHeist), our fun voice morphing app. We made sounding like a Chipmunk cool again. We’re still reeling from the epic launch, but we couldn’t be happier with how well it’s done. Instead of writing paragraph after paragraph about our achievements this year, I feel a list works just as effectively:

Over 500,000 apps sold.

Voices reaching the number one spot on the App Store.

Postman featured in not just one, but two television commercials.

Numerous positive reviews and press.

I guess the usual route for a company with success like Taptivate’s is to take everything we’ve earned and expand like crazy. This means hiring a bunch of new staff, moving into swanky headquarters and accepting venture capitalists money. Luckily, we are not a conventional company and have a different plan for 2010.

First and foremost, we are going to carry on as normal and keep creating amazing apps for you, our awesome customers. I’ve always been a firm believer in focusing on one project at a time, giving it everyones undivided attention until it’s almost unreasonably perfect. Dividing your time wisely and project managing is a core skill of any competent producer, but there is something to be said about constantly refining an app until it’s absolutely ready for the public. If I have learnt anything from 2009, it’s to not rush products to market for the sake of getting it out there. The App Store is too fickle and bound to your star rating to allow for you to put out a second rate product, whilst also making it a success.

We often get asked why we have our apps published by different companies. The truth is that this works really, really well for us. Developers have been complaining throughout 2009 about how their app doesn’t get the exposure they crave or the App Store millions they budgeted for, as such we were determined to not suffer the same fate. To make up for our lack of marketing expertise, we have teamed up with industry giants such as Freeverse and tap tap tap to bring you our apps. This won’t be changing in 2010, but it’s not to say that we aren’t paying close attention to the ways these guys work their magic, we really are. Perhaps we can one day reproduce it, but for now we are constantly learning.

As for what apps you can expect from Taptivate in 2010, we aren’t telling yet. Just know that they will be obsessively planned and perfectly produced. ¡Viva la app!
