2009 was a great year for us at Taptivate. Not only did we announce ourselves to the world, but it seems people loved the apps we produced!

Postman (in conjunction with Freeverse and Phill Ryu) was our first release in the middle of the year. Our frankly awesome Postcard app has gone from strength to strength this year, far exceeding our expectations. You might have even seen it on television. Later in the year saw the release of Voices (in conjunction with tap tap tap and MacHeist), our fun voice morphing app. We made sounding like a Chipmunk cool again. We’re still reeling from the epic launch, but we couldn’t be happier with how well it’s done. Instead of writing paragraph after paragraph about our achievements this year, I feel a list works just as effectively:

Over 500,000 apps sold.
Voices reaching the number one spot on the App Store.
Postman featured in not just one, but two television commercials.
Numerous positive reviews and press.

I guess the usual route for a company with success like Taptivate’s is to take everything we’ve earned and expand like crazy. This means hiring a bunch of new staff, moving into swanky headquarters and accepting venture capitalists money. Luckily, we are not a conventional company and have a different plan for 2010.

First and foremost, we are going to carry on as normal and keep creating amazing apps for you, our awesome customers. I’ve always been a firm believer in focusing on one project at a time, giving it everyones undivided attention until it’s almost unreasonably perfect. Dividing your time wisely and project managing is a core skill of any competent producer, but there is something to be said about constantly refining an app until it’s absolutely ready for the public. If I have learnt anything from 2009, it’s to not rush products to market for the sake of getting it out there. The App Store is too fickle and bound to your star rating to allow for you to put out a second rate product, whilst also making it a success.

We often get asked why we have our apps published by different companies. The truth is that this works really, really well for us. Developers have been complaining throughout 2009 about how their app doesn’t get the exposure they crave or the App Store millions they budgeted for, as such we were determined to not suffer the same fate. To make up for our lack of marketing expertise, we have teamed up with industry giants such as Freeverse and tap tap tap to bring you our apps. This won’t be changing in 2010, but it’s not to say that we aren’t paying close attention to the ways these guys work their magic, we really are. Perhaps we can one day reproduce it, but for now we are constantly learning.

As for what apps you can expect from Taptivate in 2010, we aren’t telling yet. Just know that they will be obsessively planned and perfectly produced. ¡Viva la app!

Christmas at the App Store

When your app sells over 80,000 copies in a single day, you know you have a hit on your hands. One such developer did just that on Christmas Day. It seems like iPhone developers can now look forward to a yearly frenzy of sales around the holiday season, you can bet we will. Sales of Voices over the holidays looked like this:

24th December: 5261
25th December: 18769

The guys over at tap tap tap have released the sales figures for our number one ranking and mega fun app Voices. Not only that, but they have also included some nifty advice for any iPhone developers looking to try their hand at successfully launching an app.

Some facts and figures for you, keep in mind this is only for the first month:

302,337 copies sold.
Over $205,000 in revenue.
At it’s peak, Voices sold over 18,000 copies in one day.

The 12 apps of Christmas

This is certainly a nice surprise from our buddies over at Apple. Postman is featured in their latest iPhone television ad as one of the twelve apps of Christmas. Awesome!

Voices, the view from the top

Voices has just hit the number 1 spot in the Top Paid apps list. It’s had a meteoric rise in just three full days and we couldn’t be happier with how it’s been received. Minus a few “did he really spell that word wrong?” reviews, we’ve had some awesome ratings and feedback. Thank you to every customer who has purchased Voices.

If it wasn’t 9:30am, I’d be breaking out some form of alcohol to celebrate.

Voices, 24 hours in

In less than 24 hours, Voices has skyrocketed to (as of writing) number 16 in the Top 100 paid apps. It has even broke the App Store by it’s amazing climb. A lot of the credit has to go down to the fabled MacHeist effect, but we’ve also had some great press attention since launch. We like to think it’s a damn nifty app too!

Note above how Voices is both number 16 and 28. It seems we either have an impersonator or our very own App Store shadow. Either way, amazing!

Introducing Voices for iPhone

We are proud to announce to the world the release of Voices, a fun voice morphing app for your iPhone. It’s been a tough but fun few months leading up to today and frankly, we couldn’t be happier with the outcome. Taptivate has teamed up with tap tap tap to publish the app, who in partnership with MacHeist are running an awesome promotional giveaway. Those guys really have their heads screwed on and it’s been amazing to work with them. Not to forget the fabulous work put in by our resident graphic artist Marcelo Marfil and our ever-patient audio engineer Josh Mobley.
